Five days later nearly all of them were either dead, wounded or taken prisoner", so opens this account of the author's WW2 service as a member of that batallion, sent as reinforcements to the soon to be besieged Calais. The author was captured and endured five years captivity as a POW before being liberated by the Americans in 1945, very sl. slant to spine, lightly rubbed at tips, sl. ripple to book, edges tanned, very good,
